Blurred Lines and Bright Lines Part II
The recent copyright infringement case brought by Marvin Gaye's estate against pop stars Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, and the rapper T.I. over the song "Blurred Lines" attracted much attention in 2015. In March, a jury held Williams and Thicke liable for copyright infringement of Marvin Gaye's 1977 song "Got to Give It Up", and initially awarded $7.4 million in damages. Since that time, a federal judge has reduced the amount of damages, but the verdict continues to be a hot topic in the music industry. Our seminar brings together a blue-ribbon panel to discuss what this decision means for musicians.
