The Dilettanti Society Happy Hour - Cocktails and Show and Tell in the Morbid Anatomy Library: Hair Art with Karen Bachmann
Morbid Anatomy and Art in the Age present The Dilettanti Society Happy Hour - Cocktails and Show and Tell in the Morbid Anatomy Library with Scholar in Residence Karen Bachmann Date: Thursday September 10th Time: 6.00 - 8pm Admission: $20 ( $12 for Members ) LIMITED TO 20 PEOPLE
This bi-monthly event is loosely inspired by the Dilettanti Society, a society of 18th century aristocrats and scholars eager to share their love for art and knowledge around a good drink, The Morbid Anatomy Museum is proud to open the doors of its permanent collection for a few late afternoon libations and the celebration of all things arcane and spectacular.
Meet collectors extraordinaire and their objects of intrigue. Discover the Library collection in a very unique way, a cocktail in your hand while enjoying the Victrola stylings of Ethan Crenson. Karen Bachmann has long been a collector, scholar, and maker of hairwork. These are artworks using human hair--often of the deceased beloved--in order to create memorial objects to be displayed in the home or worn on the body. They were especially popular in the 18th and 19th century. Tonight, Karen--a master jeweler and our resident hair artist--will show exquisite antique and modern pieces of hair art drawn from her own extensive collection. She will also share new insights into the craft and its history gleaned on her recent trip to a small town in Sweden where a cottage industry still exists in the fabrication of ornamental hairwork jewelry and wall decor.
Free seasonal refreshment will be served by our sponsors Art in the Age.
