William Shakespeare's sonnets and stage works overflow with some of the most vivid and vibrant texts ever written in the English language.
Our Spring Concert will feature texts by Shakespeare, sung by the Heritage Chorale in a wide range of musical styles, from madrigals to jazz. There will also be dramatic presentations of Shakespeare's sonnets and brief scenes from his plays.
The Chorale will be joined in this concert by the Young Women's Chorus (YWC) of the Handel & Haydn Society, under conductor Alyson Greer. Founded in 1998, the H+H Society's Young Women's Chorus has consistently demonstrated its ability to perform challenging and interesting repertoire above the typical level for high school female choral ensembles. The ensembles 70+ members come from more than 40 communities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. YWC performs classical repertoire in a variety of languages, along with spirituals, jazz, folksongs, and a cappella music.
To round out the program,Heritage Chorale will present music by various 17th-century composers, the very music that resonated in the hearts and minds of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
