Skinning and Tanning Workshop with Katie Innamorato
Date: Thursday, September 17th Time: 1pm to 4pm Admission: $100 Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn
This class will introduce students to the basics of skinning and tanning hides. Students will skin their specimens; generally small items like paws or critters squirrel sized or smaller, flesh, prep, and salt their hides. A pickling and tanning kit will go home with the students so they can finish the process at home. Instructions and a demonstration will be given so the students have the knowledge to finish the process and tan more items at home. Katie Innamorato is one of the Morbid Anatomy taxidermists in residence and is a professionally trained taxidermy artist. She is an active MART and Garden State Taxidermist Association member. Her work has been featured on the TV shows "Oddities and Odd Folks Home," displayed at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles and various other galleries. She was recently published in the book Taxidermy Art by Robert Marbury and featured on Vice. She has also done demonstrations and lectures at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and at The Institute Library in Connecticut.
