"Well"

TASN's production of Lisa Kron's sparkling autobiographical play, Well, features a brilliant cast and crew. Well is a funny and touching comedy about mothers and daughters, mind over body, social activism and the theatre itself.

"This play is not about my mother and me", begins the character of Lisa. But of course, it is about her mother, and her mother's extraordinary ability to heal a neighborhood, despite her inability to heal herself.

The play lives in the space between actual fact and subjective memory, where every good story abides. It seems at first that the playwright is breaking all the rules. The effect is delightful. By the end of the play you realize you've been taken along a psychic mobius band, passing from outer to inner perceptions while crossing no perceptible threshold. This is the best kind of playwriting.

Well opened on Broadway at The Shubert's Longacre Theater in 2006. It was first produced in New York two years prior in an acclaimed and extended run at the Public Theater. Recently, Ms Kron wrote the book for the musical, Fun Home, currently running on Broadway. Fun Home won the 2015 Tony for Best New Musical.
