Maier Hall Concert Series: Timothy Hudson
The final Maier Hall concert of the series, April 12, 2016, brings one of the most brilliant young trumpeters in America to Maier Hall. Timothy Hudson, founder and leader of Carolina Brass, has held principal trumpet positions with the Knoxville Symphony, State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra of Northern New York. He has also performed with the Oslo Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony, International Orchestra and Camerata Chamber Orchestra.
Dr. Hudson leads a rich and fast-paced musical life, Jones said, performing with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and in solo recitals; teaching at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina; recording for many labels (Summit, OSEM, Mode Records, Mark Records, IBA, and Academy Sound & Vision); giving clinics and master classes around the world. As an artist and educator he has worked across the US, and in Mexico, England, New Zealand, the Far East and Israel. The conductors under which Dr. Hudson has played include Lorin Maazel, Yoel Levi, Mariss Jansons, Leonard Slatkin, and Enrique Batiz. In short, he has been involved with almost every situation imaginable for contemporary trumpeter. His recital is sure to include a great variety of interesting and accessible music, including a composition that Jones wrote expressly for him in 1991, Copper Lake Fantasy. Jones will accompany Dr. Hudson at the piano.
Online ticket sales close at 4pm on Monday, April 11, after which tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the event, on a space-available basis.
