Kulturkueche - Cooking Series
Join Rita to create a German Onion Tart - a German delicacy served as the months turn cooler in southwestern Germany! This popular German fall dish contains steamed onions, dices bacon, cream, and caraway seeds. Unlike quiche, it is usually baked on yeast dough.
Traditionally, Zwiebelkuchen is served with Neuer Wein (new wine), or "Moscht" - a refreshing white wine, also known as Federweisser, Suser, Sauser, Neuer Süßer (new sweet), or Junger Wein (young wine). Neuer Wein is made from freshly pressed grape juice and is available locally in wine growing regions when the fermenting has reached about 4% alcohol. Since the wine is still fermenting, it can only remain in its bottle for about a week, because later the bottle may explode!
To give you the full Zwiebelkuchen experience, we will serve Neuer Wein at this class. Welcome the new season by learning how to make a unique dish and enjoy a glass of Neuer Wein as a great complement. Before you know it, Zwiebelkuchenzeit will be over!
Class fee includes demonstration, recipes, one drink, and tasting.
