The Gideon Forbes Sextet: The Frost Songs featuring Taylor O'Donnell
The Frost Songs is a new project from Gideon Forbes that showcases the poetry of Robert Frost. Inspired by the music of Frank Carlberg and Steve Grover, Gideon started setting poetry to music in 2012. This new project will feature a sextet performing a group of poems from Frost's A Further Range. The group will feature Taylor O'Donnell, Barry Saunders, Kinnon Church, Gary Wittner, and Jacob Forbes.
Gideon Forbes, a native of Vermont, is a saxophonist and composer living in Maine. Gideon is an active instrumentalist in New England, and has worked with organizations such as the Portland Jazz Orchestra, Maine State Musical Theater, the New Hampshire Music Festival, and the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. Gideon has performed with notable musicians such as Scott Reeves, Thelonious Monk Institute/BMI Jazz Composers Competition winner Steve Grover, Kris Berg, Gary Wittner (former Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador), and Mat Catingub.
Most recently, Gideon can be heard with PigBee on MPBN's Friday night Jazz with Rich Tozier. He can also be heard on the CD "Necessity", a new album from the Tom Luther Quintet. Currently Gideon is a member of The Fogcutters ("Best Jazz Act of New England", 2014 New England Music Awards), The Tom Luther Quintet, and PigBee (a jazz trio with bandmates Jacob Forbes and Peter Herman). He performs his own music with his new project, The Frost Songs, which features music inspired and set to the poetry of Robert Frost. Gideon is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Maine and currently resides in Portland, Maine.
