Youth Ambassadors Program - Meet the 2012 Participants!
Free and open to all!
Please join the World Affairs Council and the International Visitor Program as we celebrate with 10 youth leaders visiting from Brazil as a part of the Youth Ambassadors Program 2012.
Youth participants are high school students from Brazil who have been recognized for their community leadership skills and outstanding academic achievement.
While in Seattle, the youth leaders are engaging in dialogue with local youth, volunteering, and examining issues of civic engagement and volunteerism through workshops and meetings with community members.
Light refreshments and appetizers will be served.
In 2012, the Youth Ambassadors Program is celebrating its 10th anniversary of exchange. During these years, 249 public school students have participated in the program, representing Brazil in the United States as Young Ambassadors. To commemorate the program's 10th anniversary, the Embassy and partners selected 45 young Brazilians for the 2012 program, 10 more students than in previous years. Visit the link to get to know each student's profile.
During this year's exchange program, the Youth Ambassadors will spend a week in the U.S. capital, Washington D.C., where they will attend meetings with U.S. government officials and visit historic monuments, museums and organizations. During the following two weeks of the program, the group will divide into five smaller delegations that will travel to different U.S. states (North Carolina, Washington, Montana, Oklahoma and Ohio) to live with American volunteer host family. They will also attend classes at American high schools, where in addition to learning about the daily lives of American students, they will have the opportunity to give presentations about Brazil and develop action plans to strengthen their community volunteer projects back home in Brazil.
The Youth Ambassadors Program was created in Brazil and is now being replicated in 25 countries. U.S. Embassy partners in this initiative are FedEx, Merck, Dow Brazil, Microsoft, Bradesco, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, United Airlines, Nike, IBM, National Council of Education Secretaries (CONSED) and all Binational Centers.
Please note: free tickets will be available for will-call and Print-at-Home only.
