Week 1: Research & Refine Your Book Idea (The Business of Books)
Bringing nearly 40 years of experience and 40 published books between the two of them, Jen & Kerry created an intensive four-part series to illuminate each step of the book proposal process, breaking it down into an easy-to-follow 30-day plan. Each talk will cover a different aspect of the development process, detail how to write various components, and provide "homework" to move the proposal forward each week. The result? An on-point proposal by month's end, ready to send to publishers or agents.
Jen & Kerry are committed to getting that book idea out of your head and into the bookstores. Attendees are encouraged to attend the entire series, but single sessions are also available. The series price is $299, which includes the toolkit (a $79 value!). Single session tickets are $79 and available at the door (cash or check only) and do not include the toolkit.
Week 1: Research & Refine Your Idea Develop a winning book idea that will rise out of the slush pile. This week, focus on finding and honing a viable nonfiction or fiction idea. You'll learn how to research the marketplace and competition, brainstorm formats, and develop a publisher and agent wish list. Homework: Visit bookstores to gather competing titles and five publishers/agents. Proposal components: Competing Titles, About the Book
