Zen Poets
Zen Poets are a North Carolina-grown assemblage of fiery young jazz musicians led by saxophonist and composer, Annalise Stalls. This show will feature of sounds of Russell Favre on guitar, Aaron Gross on bass, and Michael D'Angelo on drums playing originals from the upcoming Zen Poets album, Music for Mounds.
Annalise Stalls is a multi-genre saxophonist, composer, and teaching artist specializing in the jazz idiom. She is an active performer on the North Carolina scene, known for utilizing extended techniques on the saxophone such as slap-tonguing, multiphonics, and circular breathing in live performances. She recently won a DownBeat Award for Best Jazz Arrangement as well as First Prize at the NCCU & Salett Arts Jazz Competition with Zen Poets. She enjoys connecting musical composition and improvisation with storytelling in many avenues, including theatre, visual arts, film, and poetry. Annalise the the Zen Poets will release their debut album of originals, Music for Mounds at The Crown at the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro, NC on September 26 at the 17 Days Festival.
