Glenn Jones & Wounded Knee at The Old Hairdressers
We are happy to announce that our first event of 2012 will be an evening with 'American Primitive' guitarist Glenn Jones and Wounded Knee at The Old Hairdresser's on February the 24th. ____________________________________________________________
A 30+-year devotee of the so-called 'American Primitive' or 'Takoma School' of acoustic steel string guitarists, Glenn Jones has been playing guitar since the age of 14, operating for 20+ years as the guitarist for legendary Boston psych band Cul De Sac (including collaborations with Damo Suzuki and John Fahey), Glenn has gone on to release four solo albums of fingerpicked guitar and banjo, the latest of which 'The Wanting' (Thrill 271) includes an extended collaboration with drummer Chris Corsano.
"This is music that makes its own space, creates its own landscape, and then invites you in. It may be intricate, it may be experimental, but it is never unapproachable." - Pop Matters
" an incredibly adept fingerstyle guitarist whose technique always remains in service of the song His vigorous leaps are daring but never reckless, and nearly always sublime." Utne Reader
"The best guitarist you never heard of." The Boston Globe ____________________________________________________________
The Wanting, Glenn Jones' first album for Thrill Jockey, was recorded in a fourth floor apartment on Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, overlooking the commuter train line. If you listen carefully to the record, you can occasionally hear trains going by in the background. Reuben Son recorded the album between December 12, 2010, and April 20, 2011. This was one of our favourite albums of 2011 and his live performances are renowned for being highly emotive affairs.

Wounded Knee is Drew Wright, a singer and experimental vocalist now based in Glasgow who has been active since 2004. Drawing from a variety of influences his music ranges from stripped down folk balladry to abstract improvised vocalic stravaigs. He is primarily a solo performer and uses an Akai Headrush 2 loop pedal or accompanies his singing with a Shruti Box. Drew has performed at several of our shows and we are always amazed at his innate ability to create a sense of intimacy, watching him often feels voyeuristic, as though you are fly on his living room wall.
