On Holographic Perspective: An Illustrated Lecture by Tristan Duke
The Velaslavasay Panorama welcomes Tristan Duke, who will present an illustrated lecture exploring the optics of the holographic image, its history and pre-history, placing it within a larger movement towards an exploded vanishing point.
The holographic image has many unique properties that set it apart from other human imaging techniques. The most immediately striking property is that the image is completely three-dimensional. But perhaps even more unique is the way in which information is recorded on the holographic plate, where information about the "whole" is contained in any given single point. This way of depicting an image constitutes a Copernican shift in perspective, from a fixed gaze to an expanded field of view, from a single vanishing point to complex light-field.
