From Island Press: The Life & Legacy of Urban Critic Jane Jacobs
A distinguished panel discusses the ideasand legacyof celebrated urban critic Jane Jacobs, an advocate of vibrant city neighborhoods. Fifty years ago, Jacobs (1916-2006) published the classic Death and Life of Great American Cities; the new edition of Ideas that Matter sheds light on the development of Jacobs' theories, which continue to influence the creation of livable, human-scale communities. Panelists include Peter Steinbrueck (architect and former Seattle City Councilmember), Frances McCue (writer and former Director of the Richard Hugo House), and Stephen A. Goldsmith, Director of the Center for the Living City. The panel will be moderated by Anne Vernez Moudon (primary professor at UW's College of Architecture & Urban Planning). Presented as part of the From Island Press series by Town Hall and Island Press through the Town Hall Center for Civic Life, in association with IslandWood and Elliott Bay Book Company. Series media sponsorship provided by PubliCola. Series supported by The Boeing Company, the RealNetworks Foundation, and the True/Brown Foundation.
