CAFÉ BAGHDAD
Have Arab Coffee with a Jew in the New York City of the Middle East. It's 1928.
Enveloped in the trappings of a Baghdad inspired café, join us for a collage of stories culled from memoirs, primary sources and poetry that introduce you to a face of a city different from the violent and fractured Baghdad encountered on television and in the newspaper today. Stepping back into 1928, you will enter a profoundly modern and cosmopolitan city which presents a paradigm of Jewish, Muslim and Christian coexistence often obscured today, but reflective of trends across the Middle East and North Africa at the time. Post performance conversations with local scholars will reflect on this experience and interfaith conversations will be facilitated.
And what is a cafe without nosh! We hope you will save room for dinner and patronize our host. Their full menu will be available so come early to select seats, order up some humos and settle into the atmosphere.
