Cayuga Chamber Orchestra: Chamber Music Series #6
This adventurous program will undoubtedly have something new to share, even for the most devoted classical music listener. The Bartok isn't as contemporary as the Paterson, but it's still too rarely performed. (Side note: Michael Galván, our principal clarinetist, will not only be featured in this concert, but also on our Orchestral Series concert on November 21st, playing the Mozart concerto. Not to be missed!) The Paterson was co-commissioned by Percy Browning so is an especially fitting work to program in her honor. And the Smetena quartet is a breathtaking work for string quartet. With two new musicians in principal chairs, this work will be the first time all four of our principal strings get to work together so closely, and we couldn't be more excited to share their collaboration with our audience.
PATERSON: Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano In Honor of Percy Browning*
BARTOK: Contrasts
SMETENA: String Quartet No. 1 in E Minor "From my Life"
*Percy Browning has been a longtime supporter and dear friend of the CCO. We are deeply grateful for her generosity, her continuous involvement, and our meaningful relationship that has lasted for many seasons. In honor of her recent milestone birthday, we've programmed certain pieces for our Chamber Music Series with her passion for new music in mind. From all of us at the CCO, Happy Birthday, Percy!
