Cayuga Chamber Orchestra: Orchestral Series #1
Mariusz Smolij, Music Director for the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra (Lafayette, LA) will be the first candidate to join us. With a master's degree from the Academy of Muisc from his homeland of Poland and a D.M.A. from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY) Maestro Smolij will lead the CCO in works by two powerhouse composers.
We're thrilled to have Xak Bjerken (pictured), Cornell faculty member, as our first soloist of the season, performing a work that many consider to be one of the piano repertoire's best concertos.
The Rossini overture, a delightful work in any context, was selected by Maestro Smolij to round out the program. Be sure to attend the pre-concert chat, so you can hear his thoughts on why this piece was the perfect fit for the other two pieces.
BEETHOVEN: Concerto No. 5 for Piano, Op 85 "Emperor" Xak Bjerken, piano
SCHUBERT: Symphony No. 8, D.759 in B Minor "Unfinished"
ROSSINI: Overture to Barber of Seville (Conductor's Choice)
