Jazz Lunch: The Music of Jimmy Van Heusen
Normally offered only to groups, a special JAZZ Lunch, open to the public, will be presented Wednesday, September 9 at 11:30am, at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. A limited number of general seating tickets will be available for advance purchase at $25 each, and will include a delicious box lunch, soft drinks and a 60-minute presentation of the Music of Jimmy Van Heusen, Featuring Lori Mechem, Don O. Henry and NJW Vocalists.
Jimmy Van Heusen was arguably one of the most accomplished songwriters in history. Claiming four "Oscars" and one Emmy award among his credits he also wrote more songs (85) recorded by Frank Sinatra, his long time friend, than any other composer. He also composed the songs for another good friend, Bing Crosby for six of the seven Crosby/Hope Road pictures. Most of his songs were written with two lyricist partners Johnny Burke (1940 to 1953) and then Sammy Cahn, and includes such classic tunes as "But Beautiful," "Come Fly with Me," and "Swinging on a Star."
We celebrate his music with a lineup of Nashville Jazz Workshop vocalists Robert Whorton, Jennifer Bruce, Sharron Ferrara, Nancy Mechem and Catherine Holder, accompanied by a trio consisting of Lori Mechem (piano), Scott Chambers (bass), and Ralph Henley (drums). The event will also feature narration with an original script about the composer's life written and presented by Don O. Henry.
Jazz Lunch takes place in the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. Admission is $25, which includes a delicious box lunch, soft drinks and the 60-minute presentation. Tickets will be available for advance purchase on Monday, August 24 at 10AM. They may be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006), or during daytime business hours at 615-242-5299.
