Sema - The Whirling Prayer of Mevlevi Sufi Dervishes
On Sunday, September 13, 2015, at 3:30 pm, the Whirling Dervishes of the Mevlevi Order of America (MOA) will present the Sema Ceremony honoring the great Sufi Mystical Poet, Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, at the Ballard Oddfellows Hall. The afternoon event will feature the prayer dancing of the Whirling Dervishes, a ceremony presented as it has been for over 700 years. In their traditional felt hats and flowing white garments, turners whirl in unison, attuning to the music of the heart. The Ceremony will be led by Makam Postneshin Jelaleddin Loras. Sacred music will be presented by a traditionally-trained Mevlevi ensemble.
Remaining tickets will be available at the door (cash only) for $25.
