Slavyanka Russian Chorus Presents: "Jewels of the Russian Baroque"
On October 2nd, San Francisco's Slavyanka Russian Chorus will present "Jewels of the Russian Baroque," an a cappella concert of Russian choral music.
The program includes a rich selection of Russian choral music, much of it unknown in the West, with a special focus on music of Russia's Baroque period (both early and late): liturgical and secular pieces, and works for both male and mixed choirs, including two East Coast premieres. For this concert, Slavyanka is joined by instrumentalists, singers, and soloists from San Francisco, Boston, and the Commonwealth Lyric Theater.
Slavyanka's gifted Russian-born and trained artistic director Irina Shachneva leads an inspired group of low basses, soaring tenors, angelic sopranos, and lyrical altos in rich interpretations of both folk and composed music spanning hundreds of years. Based in San Francisco, Slavyanka is an internationally recognized a cappella chorus specializing in Russian and Eastern European choral music. Over 35 years it has performed hundreds of concerts for American audiences, toured Russia and Eastern Europe on four occasions, and received high praise for its musicianship from both American and Russian critics.
