Theatre Oxford will present Ken Ludwig's comedy, Lend Me a Tenor, on February 11-13th at 7:30 pm and February 14th at 2 pm.
The London Times called Lend Me a Tenor "a remarkable piece of theatre . . . a masterpiece." The New York Times hailed it as "one of the two great farces by a living writer." The original production in 1989 won three Tony and four Drama Desk Awards. It combines hilarious dialogue with zany characters, a frenetic pace, a dash or two of old-fashioned slapstick, and of course that stand-by of farce, mistaken identity.
SYNOPSIS: Desperate for an audience boost, the producer of the Cleveland Opera hires world-famous tenor Tito Morelli to appear as Otello. A series of misadventures leaves Tito apparently dead in his hotel room; so save the day, the producer convinces his assistant, Max, to don Tito's spare Otello costume and sing the role. While Max is doing that, Tito revives, throws on his own costume and heads for the opera house. What ensues is classic American farce.
