"Is There A Place For Me In This World?"
Edward Albee's masterwork "The Story Zoo" is on the one hand a brash, bold, heartbreaking story of the price of modernism, and on the other hand a simple tale of one human being trying desperately to connect with another.
A man sits reading a book on a park bench. It's his bench, his coveted, sunny, Sunday afternoon spot. His name is Peter. He has a wife, two cats, two parakeets, two daughters, more than enough money to live on, and he works at a small publishing house. How do we know all this? Because Jerry, a stranger, penniless, and full of fantastical stories, approaches him and starts a conversation: "I've been to the zoo today," he says, and so begins the wild and shocking tale of "The Zoo Story."
Winner of the Village Voice Obie Award and the Drama Desk Vernon Rice Award, "The Zoo Story" remains as powerful and passionate a play today as it was in 1960.
This dazzling production by the multimedia theatre company aluminous will be a performance of "The Zoo Story" unlike any other! Once again theatre will show that it is a medium without equal when it comes to expressing the wild and wonderful adventure called the human experience.
BIOS Lijesh Krishnan - Director Lijesh grew up in his native India and Kuwait, and spent a decade in the Twin Cities before moving to the Bay Area. He has acted in a number of plays locally including Aluminous' "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot". He loves Computer Science, Shakespeare, and is excited about directing "Zoo Story".
Michael French - Jerry Michael is the founder and artistic director of aluminous.
Francisco Rodriguez - Peter Francisco is a developing Theatre Practitioner with a background in Performance, Lighting Design, Writing and Directing. With a B.A. in Drama Performance from San Francisco State University, he was last seen on their Main Stage as Chrysale in Molière's The Learned Ladies directed by Delia Macdougall. Along with his portrayal as Peter in Aluminous's production of The Zoo Story, he will also be seen as Green Crayon in Bay Area Children's Theatre's extension of The Day the Crayons Quit in the new BACT studio.
