Final Broadcast, UMO Ensemble
In their first world premiere production since Rapunzel, UMO Ensemble presents Final Broadcast.
Drawing from the work of a myriad of writers including Einstein, Kant, Julian Barbour, Italo Calvino and James Thurber, as well as theories of advanced physics, UMO utilizes the realm of stage clowns and traditions of absurdist theatre to explore the possibility that Time does not exist.
Vivid and thought provoking, the story of Final Broadcast is rooted in the isolated world of a late night radio talk show host and a devoted listener. When the talk show host declares that Time is an illusion, events are put in motion that propel him and his listener onto a powerful journey through the labyrinth of Times elusive nature. Traveling through surreal and strangely familiar worlds where Time takes on many forms, their quest for lost time brings them face to face with the most fundamental questions of human existence. In the end, they are forced to make a crucial and irreversible choice about their relationship to Time. UMO Ensemble, lauded locally, nationally and internationally for the creation of extraordinary new works of physical theatre (including Caravan of Dreams, El Dorado, Millennium Circus, Fatal Peril and Rapunzel, among others) will work with innovative theatre director Christopher Petit. Recipient of a B.F.A from the Rutgers University Professional Actors Training Program and an M.F.A. in Directing from Columbia University, Mr. Petit has extensive experience in ensemble-generated theatre. His previous collaborations in Seattle have included directing for Seattle Rep, Seattle Group Theater, Open Circle, and One World Theatre. Final Broadcast marks his first collaboration with UMO.
Final Broadcast was conceived by David Godsey and Christopher Petit, created by UMO Ensemble, and written by Lyam White.
