March 24 -- "Broadway, Curtain Up!" Inaugural Event
After sixty years the Needham Great Hall will again open for performances. Please join us at this gala inaugural event featuring a champagne celebration and a night of special surprises! You don't want to miss this!!
"Broadway, Curtain Up!" in partnership with Longwood Opera, will feature selections from great Broadway productions, including Kiss me Kate, West Side Story, Secret Garden, Sweeney Todd, and Les Miserables, sung by exceptionally talented performers including Devin Dukes, Vanessa Schukis, Brian De Lorenzo, and John Whittlesy, with Scott Nicholas at the keyboard. The program will also feature favorite solos and ensembles by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Lerner/Loewe and Lloyd Webber. Don't miss this splendid evening of entertainment for people of all ages!
May 12 -- The Tiger Okoshi Quintet
International Jazz great Tiger Okoshi has played with legends from around the globe, including Tony Bennett, Dave Grusin, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, and the Buddy Rich Orchestra. He has been named the Boston Music Awards "Best Horn Player" three times, and he has been a Berklee College of Music faculty member since 1997. Okoshi and the Quartet will perform original compositions and Louis Armstrong standards, as well as a special composition that he arranged to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sakura (cherry trees) in Washington and Boston.
September 22 -- The Orion Piano Trio
The Orion Classical Ensemble - world class artists all - members of the Boston Symphony and faculty from the New England Conservatory of Music and Boston University, featuring Peter Zazofsky, violin, Ronald Lowry, cello and Randall Hodgkinson, piano. Orion's Great Hall Concert Series program will feature Beethoven's energetic and intense Trio in C minor, Op. 1, No. 3, and the ever popular and lyrically spirited 'Trout Quintet' by Franz Schubert. Musicians from Needham High School will join the Needham concert.
November 3 -- Tom Rush
A living legend who helped usher in the singer-songwriter era and profoundly impacted American music. Tom Rush was instrumental in shaping the folk revival of the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s. His distinctive guitar style, wry humor, warm, expressive voice and engaging storytelling have universal appeal and have made his songs hits with folk, country, heavy metal and rap audiences. Presented in partnership with The Homegrown Coffeehouse.
