Shawan & the Wonton, Mariage Blanc, Spherehead, and Navigator at Tellus360
8pm $15 Mariage Blanc
Mariage Blanc is an indie-pop band based in Pittsburgh, PA that has been quietly releasing music since 2008. From the last-call sing-a-longs of Broken Record (2008), through the retro influenced orchestral pop of Mariage Blanc (2010), to the brooding electronic sleepwalking of Undercurrents (2013) - each release has found the band employing a new aesthetic while exploring their ongoing love affair with bittersweet pop.
Their newest release, No Autobiography (2015), finds Mariage Blanc channeling both late 60s Laurel Canyon and late 90s indie pop, with sharp melodies adrift in sepia tone melancholy.
Shawan and the Wonton
With a powerful voice that is way beyond her years (she is 20), Shawan Rice delivers a set of bluesy indie rock that is both modern and classic at the same time. With influences as varied as Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Conor Oberst, and Jimi Hendrix, Shawan and her guitarist/keyboardist Mike Dempsey create music that will reach right into your soul.
Spherehead
Guitar-based Melodic Progressive Alternative Indie Sometimes Math-y Sometimes Psych-y
Navigator
Navigator, from Lancaster, is a new breed of Post Rock, blending organic acoustic sounds with analogue synthesizers and other unorthodox elements to create a warm and colorful landscape of sound.
