Indra's Web
One Night Only! New from UMO Ensemble: Indra's Web at Open Space for Arts & Community
"UMO stumbles, as if by accident, on the part of us that's closest to heaven." Village Voice.
When and where did You join UMO's Web?
For the first time ever, original UMO Founding Artists and new ensemble members join together on one stage, in one performance, for one night only in the funny, breathtaking new piece Indra's Web.
Conceived by the Ensemble and directed by Kevin Joyce, Indra's Web sprung from an Indian folk tale, where the god Indra creates the world in the form of a giant web. Each connection in the web is a jewel, reflecting the connectivity of every living thing.
In imitable UMO fashion, Indra's Web springs from this rich source material into an extraordinary new performance, one that marries Little Miss Muffett (played by Island favorite Mik Kuhlman) and her spider foe (played by aerialist extraordinaire Martha Enson) with Indian gods and goddesses, that blends UMO's signature aerial and physical theatre work with new original music. The cast features Janet McAlpin, David Godsey, Lynelle Sjoberg, Elizabeth Klob, Kevin Joyce, and young performers from UMO's School of Physical Arts. Original music by Latin duo Correo Areo.
Indra's Web is the centerpiece of an amazing evening of UMO, intersecting with a 20 year, living UMO retrospective, weaving in the work of UMO's young student artists. Delectable dishes from The Hardware Store, gorgeous prizes, and fundraising fun complete the evening. Audience members and performers will get to experience reaching out and connecting with one another a powerful feeling in a world of disconnect.
