Oberto + 63: Two micro-operas - RHINOFEST 2012
Written & directed by Robert Metrick
Following in the grand tradition of surveillance-based opera, Oberto is a literal transcription of a conversation overheard (and accidentally recorded) at the Whole Foods Market/Lincoln Park "community table" in August 2010. The conversation between the two "customers" is translated into an operatic duet.
63 is a meandering lament for vocal ensemble. In song and text, seven "protagonists" project their interior monologs on employment, loss, longing, and the laws of supply and demand.
Featuring Paola Cabal, Lisa Cline, Susan Abelson, Ryan Richey, Steven L. Jones, Robert Metrick, and Clover Morell Artistic Director: John Ploof Assistant Director: Clover Morell
