Flushed - RHINOFEST 2012
Flushed explores the concept of gender as an arena where the struggle to reject societal shame encounters the desire for unbridled individuality. Performed in a style that fuses cabaret and confession, performance art and postmodern drag, the piece explores the lavatory as a space where gender identity is negotiated, from the humiliation of changing for a gym class, through the paranoiac rush of attempting to dispose of a dime bag, all the way to the ten reasons why you should never style your wig in the restroom of a Golden Corral. Flushed will leave the audience relieved, refreshed, and reflecting on the residue from the moments in their own lives that they cannot expel.
Music composed by Nicolas S. Ruley, with additional music by John Phillips
