Faculty Select Series: DePauw Chamber Players Wednesday, October 14 7:30 p.m. Green Center, Thompson Recital Hall
Tarn Travers, DePauw University's newly appointed professor of violin, makes a much-anticipated debut with DePauw Chamber Players on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when he'll be joined by faculty pianist May Phang and cellist Eric Edberg for two masterworks of the chamber music repertoire, including Ravel's Piano Trio in A Minor. Nicole Brockmann, currently on sabbatical, returns as the guest violist for Brahms's Piano Quartet in G Minor on this Faculty Select Series recital.
An emerging international artist, Travers traveled recently from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa to join the music faculty and Chamber Players at DePauw this fall, having previously led the New World Symphony as its concertmaster, under conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas and baroque expert Ton Koopman. Travers also appeared as a soloist every season while with New World, performing music of Béla Bartók, Ramiro Cortés, and Chen Yi. He holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where his primary teachers included Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster William Preucil and concert violinists Camilla Wicks and Axel Strauss.
