Boston Vegetarian Society New Year's Day Dinner
It's time for one of our most popular traditions at BVS -- our New Year's Day Banquet at Grasshopper! Let's start the new year with good cheer and wishes for a healthy and compassionate 2012!
We will have a generous banquet of soup, salad, five appetizers, six entrees, -- even taste a new mango soft-serve vegan yogurt for dessert -- for a bargain price of $14.25 plus tax and tip. See the menu below.

We will be served "family style" at friendly tables of 8, so don't hesitate to arrive alone! As tables of 8 fill up, they will be served. This is not a buffet.
$14.25 per person plus tax (7% in Boston) and 15% tip = $17.50
Children 5 - 11 years old are half price ($8.75) Children 0 - 4 years are free.

Vietnamese Salad -- finely shredded raw cabbage, carrots, daikon, and celery with tofu, in a light sweet/sour dressing, topped with chopped peanuts
Nori Rolls - Sticky rice with shredded carrot and daicon, avocado, wrapped in thin paper of sea vegetable, with pickled ginger and wasabe
Japanese Buckwheat Noodles -- with peanut sauce and sesame seeds
Vermicelli Hand Rolls -- elegantly wrapped in rice sheet, with dipping sauce
Fried Yellow Bean Cakes -- crispy and very delicious
Steamed Dumplings filled with mixed vegetables, napa, and tofu, with ginger dipping sauce
Cup of Soup -- Choice of either: Spicy Hot and Sour Soup Wonton Soup
Curry Coconut Vermicelli Noodles with Sweet Potatoes and Tofu
Hang's Kale, Tofu & Seitan Supreme -- Steamed kale, topped with steamed tofu scallions and seitan, red peppers in black bean basil sauce
Grasshopper Supreme -- Skinless eggplant served with asparagus, spinach, and portabello mushroom in chili basil sauce
Sweet and Sour Sensation -- Sweet and Sour Battered Tofu & Seitan served with broccoli and sesame seeds
House Special Crispy Taro Nest Three Mushrooms, Broccoli, and Mixed Vegetables with vegetable oyster sauce served in a delicious, edible taro basket
Tofu Eggplant Surprise Fresh asparagus and eggplant with steamed tofu chunks and peppers in a mild spicy black bean sauce
Brown Rice

The intersection where Grasshopper is located (the intersection of Cambridge St., Brighton Ave, and North Beacon St.) is called "Union Square" in Allston. Landmarks are the Jackson Mann School, Twin Donuts, and Grasshopper.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION --
The closest subway stop is Allston St. (Green Line B car - Commonwealth Ave. line). Get off there; facing outbound, take a right on Allston St. Follow Allston St. 4/10 mile to where it ends at Brighton Ave. Turn left (at Burger King) and walk 50 yards or so to Union Sq. Grasshopper is on the opposite side of the square.
The #66 bus Dudley Station via Harvard St. to Union Square to Harvard Square.
The #57 bus Kenmore Station to Watertown Square, via Union Square.
The #64 bus (Oak Square -- University Park or Kendall Sq. via Central Square) also goes through Union Square.
