Organ Plus, Carla Edwards and Friends
FACULTY SELECT SERIES Monday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Green Center, Kresge Auditorium
In 1994, the independent label Calcante Recordings approached DePauw professor and University organist Carla Edwards about her interest in making a CD of previously unrecorded works. For this project, Edwards chose a program of compositions for organ and other instruments to also showcase some of her colleagues at DePauw. She titled the recording "Carla Edwards and Friends." Now, almost 22 years later, she is looking to come full circle with these pieces, as well as introduce some new ones. All composed in the 20th and 21st centuries, the works chosen for this Faculty Select concert highlight Edwards's interest in a great variety of modern compositional styles: two are very colorful, tonal and calm; one tongue-in-cheek, jazzy and playful, while another is serious in mood and style. Thursday's performance culminates in the world premiere of "November Skyline," a solo organ work by composer Scott Perkins, commissioned by Edwards.
General admission: $5 Tickets for seniors, youth and all students are free.
