May Phang, piano
Faculty Select Series: May Phang, piano Saturday, October 3 at 3 p.m. Green Center, Thompson Recital Hall
For this Faculty Select performance, pianist May Phang presents a program of fantasies done three ways - all three close to their composer's heart. Chopin's "Fantasie" is a through-composed work celebrating Polish pride. Scriabin, very much influenced by Chopin as a composer, paints a Mediterranean seascape with his impressionistic two-movement Sonata. Schumann's "Kreisleriana," originally dedicated to Chopin, is a large-scale, multi-movement work was inspired by the imaginary character Johannes Kreisler from E.T.A. Hoffman's tales.
