A Fistful of Comedians
A Fistful of Comedians is five of the favorite comedy headliners that have appeared in Rochester for Scott Hansen's Comedy Gallery. New Years Eve...Eve, ends the year and starts the year with a gangbuster lineup of five national headliners that promise rapid-fire laughter from beginning to end.
Performing December 30, 2011 at the Rochester Eagles Club will be Kevin Meaney, Jim Wiggins, Scott Hansen, Jeff Gerbino and The Stagebenders.
KEVIN MEANEY has been one of the country's most popular standup comedians for more than 25 years. Tom Shale's of the Washington Post said, "Picture the precocious love child of Jonathan Winters and Ethel Merman and you have some idea of Kevin Meaney's act."
Making people laugh has always been a top priority for Kevin. From his early years doing standup comedy in San Francisco and Boston he's amassed an impressive list of credits along the way. His first HBO special in 1986 catapulted him to the forefront of the comedy scene. In 1987, Kevin made his debut appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Kevin has returned to the show a dozen times. He was a special guest on Saturday Night Live and has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Regis, Oprah and Late Night with Conan O'Brien and 30 Rock. He also had a featured role in the movie Big.
JIM WIGGINS has performed on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and been a regular for a full season on the Emmy Award winning show, "Last Comic Standing"
Jim has been making people laugh for a long time, Jimmy Wiggins is silly stuff and stories. He is a chili bowl of laughs surrounded by cracker barrel philosophy. His act is slow-cooked and spiced with hints of Mark Twain, Will Rogers and George Carlin. This humorous concoction will fill you up and stick to your ribs for quite a while!
Jim bills himself as "The Last Hippie in America" and his performance is as easy-going and amiable as a cruise in a flower covered VW bus. Jim was the first Chicago comedian to headline the comedy Gallery and was recommended to Scott by George Carlin.
SCOTT HANSEN is the unprecedented, 5-time winner of the Minnesota Comedian of the Year award. The award winning comedian has made millions laugh with successful national TV appearances on HBO, Showtime, A&E and E!. Scott has developed and created two pilots and a series for Comedy Central including " Access America" which starred Fred Willard, Digest America and "Seriously Weird Magazine", which starred Joel Hodgson (Mystery Science Theatre 3000).
Creatively, Scott has written comedy material that has been performed on the "Tonight Show" or "David Letterman" by Jay Leno, Louie Anderson and Roseanne Barr. As an actor Scott starred in the short thriller "Warped " which was directed by Roger Nygaard ( "Trekkies", "Mind of the Married Man" ) which won the Houston International Film Festival and in the feature film "Crossing the Bridge directed by Mike Binder ( The Upside of Anger)
JEFF GERBINO moved from New York to Minneapolis, MN. in the 1970's. The reason for the move was common among young men of the '70's: love of a woman. He also had a love for comedy. The love of a woman provided a 29 year marriage and two children. The love of comedy provided the spark to a new, national comedy industry that was still a laugh embryo.
When a small bar in Nordeast Minneapolis advertised a comedy contest, Jeff was the first to sign up for the event. When the event was over he convinced the bar owner to let him do weekly shows in the blue collar room. Comedian Scott Hansen helped Jeff build a show. After a few months comedians starting burrowing their way out of the paneled walls of the dingy nightclub. The St. Paul Pioneer Press called Jeff the "founding father" of the Twin Cities comedy scene as Mickey Finn's quickly became "the place to be" on Friday and Saturday nights.Jeff moved to L.A. and won the L.A. Professional Comedians Contest, appeared on HBO, Showtime, NBC.CBS and was a featured performer on Air America.
THE STAGEBENDERS (Kim Thomassen and Gust Alexander) are two junior high school buddies from Minneapolis that cracked up all of their friends. They are now America's funniest comedy duo! They are the only national performers to ever win the "MTV Comedy Challenge" twice in a row!
As seen on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno", Gust Alexander and Kim Thomassen bill themselves with the playful moniker "The Stagebenders." This dynamic duo has tappeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, ABC's America's Funniest People, MTV's The Jenny McCarthy Show, the Paramount feature film TREKKIES 2, and the Coen Brothers' The Naked Man.
After fifteen years, their act has been honed to perfection. Once they whip their audience into a comedy frenzy, no other comic dares perform after them. The Los Angeles Times has said this about the comedy twosome: "With a honed ability to play off of each other as well as the audience, the Stagebenders have mastered the art of improvisation!"
