Myra Melford's Snowy Egret

Myra Melford's never-ending search for new avenues of expression yields an impressive list of creative projects: Be Bread with Cuong Vu; The Same River Twice with Dave Douglas; and Crush with Kenny Wolleson. Her current group, Snowy Egret also the name of her latest recording debuted in 2012 and features trumpeter Ron Miles, guitarist Liberty Ellman, bassist Stomu Takeishi, drummer Tyshawn Sorey, with Melford handling piano and keyboard duties. The group's cohesive interplay brings a nuanced expressiveness to Melford's music that the New York Times says, " rings of familiarity and mystique." In 2013, Melford was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Performing Artist Award for a creative oeuvre spanning over thirty years of inventive compositions and performances.
