Counter Attack!
Stagebridge presents the world premiere of Counter Attack!, an original play by Joan Holden.
If you spent any time in San Francisco in the 70's, 80's or 90's, you probably experienced one of Joan Holden's plays. From l967 to 2000, one of the Bay Area's most prolific playwrights created over thirty groundbreaking works for the SF Mime Troup's annual season in the park. Since then, she's gone on to write acclaimed plays such as Nickel and Dimed to Wal-mart, The Musical!
Stagebridge is honored to announce that we've commissioned an original play from Holden. Loosely based on Candacy Taylor's book Counter Culture, Holden deftly shatters stereotypes of aging workers, tapping into personal stories to deconstruct complex politics. Best of all, this original Stagebridge production reunites Holden with director Sharon Lockwood and actress Joan Mankin, two esteemed artists who helped Holden forge the New Left movement of the SF Mime Troup.
At a time when most Americans are reluctantly forced to push back the age of retirement, Counter Attack helps us discover why some aging waitresses never want to leave their diner- even when they're doing a job that exhausts workers half their age.
Join us February 2012 for the world premiere of Counter Attack at the Ashby Stage and meet a character based on scores of aging waitresses who have turned their lives into art.
Discounts available for groups of 10 or more. Please contact Jamie Flaherty-Evans at 510-444-4755 ext 122.
