Jeremy Denk, piano, and Stefan Jackiw, violin
On November 15, the compelling pianist Jeremy Denk, winner of a 2013 MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, teams up with the scintillating violinist Stefan Jackiw, widely recognized as one of his generation's most captivating artists. This noteworthy duo will perform cherished sonatas by Brahms and Franck in counterpoint with rarely performed gems by the iconoclastic American master, Charles Ives. Jeremy Denk will enrich the afternoon with his insightful, thought-provoking commentary.
Music by Brahms, Franck, and Ives
Johannes Brahms: Sonata No. 2 in A, Op. 100 Charles Ives: Sonata No. 1, S. 60 Charles Ives: Sonata No. 4, S. 63 (Children's Day at the Camp Meeting) César Franck: Sonata in A
"Mr. Denk, clearly, is a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs, in whatever combination both for his penetrating intellectual engagement with the music and for the generosity of his playing." The New York Times
"It took all of one phrase to realize we were in for a performance of uncommon musical substance. it's clear he has thought more deeply than many of his peers about an essential koan of interpretation: how to wed genuine devotion to a composer's vision with playing of interior participation and personal freedom." Boston Globe
