Megan Gogerty's Feet First in the Water with a Baby in my Teeth
ONE NIGHT ONLY: JULY 19 Upstairs Studio Theatre of the Hollins Little Theatre $10 admission. All proceeds go to the New Works Initiative, a fund established for the production and presentation of work associated with the Graduate Program in Playwriting at Hollins University. ABOUT THE SHOW: She's read all the books. Bookmarked all the blogs. She should totally have this parenting thing down, right? So why has she locked herself in her bathroom with the "Dora the Explorer" soundtrack muffling her tears? Gogerty returns to Synchronicity following her 2010 hit Hillary Clinton Got Me Pregnant. Her "whopper" son is now the size of a frozen turkey and is presenting new challenges as she tries to solve the Jenga puzzle that is her life as mother, career woman and feminist. Gogerty will have you laughing until you cry (or maybe wet yourself). ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT: MEGAN GOGERTY is a playwright, performer and songwriter. Her music-play Love Jerry was produced in the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2008 after its 2006 premiere at Actor's Express in Atlanta. Her 10-minute play Rumple Schmumple (Dramatic Publishing) was featured at Dad's Garage Theatre Company in one of its infamous 8 x 11 play festivals. Other plays include: Sig Gotta Do (Synchronicity's SheWRITES Festival; Pasadena Playhouse Hothouse Series); Bad Panda (WordBRIDGE 2008 Boomerang Playwright; Syzygy Theatre/LA Writers Center series); and Hillary Clinton Got Me Pregnant (joint world premiere in 2009 at Synchronicity Theatre and Riverside Theatre in Iowa). Her musical salute to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "I Miss Buffy! Megan Gogerty's Awesome Tribute Album," is available at CDBaby.com. Megan was a Playwrights' Center Jerome Fello, earned her MFA in playwriting from the University of Texas at Austin and teaches dramaturgy and dramatic literature at the University of Iowa. She comes to Roanoke as a guest artist and responder for the 2012 Festival of Student Readings.
