Science: Dimitar Sasselov: Super-Earths in a Lab
Dimitar Sasselov sheds new light on our place in the universe by examining breakthroughs in synthetic biology and exoplanetary astronomy. For example, the Harvard astronomy professor and author of The Life of Super-Earths says while we may yet discover new worlds, a truly "alien" life form is more likely to emerge from our own natural environment-or a petri dish. We may soon cross a milestone into the era of synthetic biology under the microscope, he said, as what we learn in the laboratory informs our investigation of the universe, and vice versa. Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store. Series sponsored by Microsoft. Series media sponsorship provided by KPLU.
