Northwest Sinfonietta: Ravel & Strauss
Concluding our season under the baton of Eric Jacobsen, we are joined by French piano sensation Lise de la Salle for a performance of Ravel's jazzy Piano Concerto in G. Through her international concert appearances and her awardwinning recordings, this 26-yearold pianist has established a reputation as one of today's most exciting young artists! The rest of our program features Ravel's Mother Goose Suite and Strauss' uncommon theater music suite, Le bourgeois gentilhomme.

"This Strauss is an incredible undertaking for the orchestra. It has a huge scope to it, yet it constantly features soloists and smaller groups from within the orchestra. It connects with the Ravel loosely by means of time period (they were written within a few years of each other) and also because both pieces started as very different versions of where they exist today as concert music. Strauss's music began as an attempt at both operatic and incidental music, while Ravel's pieces were originally piano music refashioned into orchestra music with ballet in mind."  Eric Jacobsen
