John Reischman and John Miller
Mandolinist John Reischman and guitarist John Miller have been performing together for 20 years now, and in that time have earned a reputation as one of the finest acoustic instrumental duos working today.  John Reischman's beautiful singing tone and fluid phrasing mesh seamlessly with John Miller's groovy time-keeping and highly colored chord voicings.  The duo's repertoire, primarily original tunes in a variety of Latin styles, emphasizes memorable melodies--the kind that stick with you.  Their three CDs, The Singing Moon, The Bumpy Road and 2014's Road Trip have met with critical acclaim.

John Reischman has been described by David Grisman as "one of the unsung heroes of the mandolin".  John began his career with the Tony Rice Unit, followed by a long tenure with the Bay Area Bluegrass band, The Good Old Persons.  For the past fifteen years, he has fronted his own band, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, with the band achieving recognition as one of the strongest traditional Bluegrass bands on the scene.  John is in much demand for session work, too, since his distinctive sound enhances any project for which he's used.

Guitarist Duck Baker said of John Miller, "He has few peers for percussive right-hand work or beautifully voiced harmonies. This is not the boy on the magazine cover but the guy the pros admire and cop licks from (I can attest to this).".  John Miller began his solo recording career at the age of 21, and had released five solo albums before turning thirty.  He has gone on to perform and record in a host of styles and ensemble settings, with violinist Ruthie Dornfeld, the Country Blues trio, Johnson, Miller & Dermody, the Brazilian trio, Zumbido, with Jazz singer Rebecca Kilgore, and the American/Finnish quartet, Freshet.  John has also achieved recognition as one of the foremost authorities and players of Country Blues guitar.

Despite both residing in the Northwest, Seattle performances by John Reischman and John Miller are a relative rarity.  Don't miss this opportunity to catch them in Empty Sea's intimate setting and state-of-the-art sound.
