GREG LOFTUS - HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS! w/ THE WHISKEY BOYS & BRIAN CARROLL
Wednesday 12/21 GREG LOFTUS THE WHISKEY BOYS BRIAN CARROLL BLUE MONGEON 8:30 doors / 9:00 show $8 in advance and $8 at the door www.reverbnation.com/gregloftus www.thewhiskeyboys.com www.myspace.com/briancarrollmusic
Greg Loftus returns to the Lizard Lounge! Greg and his road-worn, bar folk songs have been from Beantown to the Lonestar State and everywhere in-between, picking up influences, vigor, and strength every step along the way. If you were at the going away show last September, then you'll make sure not to miss this one. Joining him will be Boston's own traditional folk band The Whiskey Boys, South shore modern roots artist Brian Carroll, and fellow Boston to Austin transplant Blue Mongeon. 'Tis the season.
Spilling your heart out countless nights on the road certainly takes its toll, and Greg Loftus knows this all too well. Since his solo debut 'No Taking Prisoners Tonight', Loftus has been playing the East Coast at a frenetic pace, picking up inspiration for new songs every step of the way. Whereas his previous album captures a headstrong, yet emotionally conscious young Loftus, 'Heathens In Disguise' finds the songwriter grappling with maturity and weightier issues. Don't worry though, Loftus can never fully abandon his rowdy beginnings, and spots of it still shine through brilliantly here. Loftus has just grown to accept that for every reckless, party-filled night on the road there is an equally quiet and somewhat lonesome one, and that is something that we all have to learn to face in due time. Let's just hope we can all relay the story as articulate and meaningful as Greg has.
Fiddle, a Guitar and two voices. The Whiskey Boys play original and traditional Irish, Old Time, and Bluegrass music reharmonized with Jazz, Rock, and wit. Often rowdy, sometimes tender, The Whiskey Boys are always a crowd pleaser.
With a spastic, yet rhythmic playing style, Brian Carroll emulates the playing styles of jammy artists such as Keller Williams and Willy Porter. While his lyrics and heart truly lie with those of Americana legends good ol ' Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. Brian feels he draws his inspiration from a blend of music that spans generations, from legends like Cash, Williams, and Watson, and modern day songwriters, such as Todd Snider, Glen Phillips, and bands he hears around his Boston music scene. Brian is now doing his best to create his own niche in the Boston music scene.
