Driving Miss Daisy
The play is set in the Deep South,1948. Having recently demolished another car, Daisy, a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish 72 year old widow, must rely on the services of a chauffeur, Hoke, an unemployed black man she regards with disdain. Slowly the dignified, good-natured Hoke breaks down the stern defenses of the ornery old lady, as she teaches him to read and write. Over 25 years, it is abundantly clear that they have both come to realize they have more in common than they ever believed possible. Written by: Alfred Uhry, Director: Harry Patrick Christian
