FISHBONE DOCUMENTARY SCREENS AT CHARLES THEATER, FRONTMAN PERFORMS AT METRO GALLERY, 12/17
Baltimore, MD. November 22, 2011 Angelo Moore, the dynamic lead singer, saxophonist, and creative force behind the band Fishbone, will be playing a show at the Metro Gallery on Saturday, December 17. The concert is in conjunction with a weeklong screening of Everyday Sunshine, a documentary about Fishbone, at the Charles Theater.
"I think that the documentary is a very great, in-depth and emotional piece," said Moore from his home in Los Angeles, fresh off the road from a national tour with Fishbone. "It provides another window for movie goers to get in touch with our music and to see our live show."
The film, which runs December 16 22, charts the turbulent history of this pioneering all-Black rock band. Formed in 1979 in South Central Los Angeles, Fishbone landed a major label record deal soon after graduating high school. However, after this early success, the band struggled for acceptance in a racially stratified music industry, while their unabashedly hybrid style kept them out of fashion for over three decades. Through frank interviews with the band, the film reveals the creative alchemy, the clash of egos, and the enduring friendships behind Fishbone's storied career.
In addition to performing at the Metro Gallery, Moore, who also uses the moniker Dr. Madd Vibe, will be answering questions about the film following select screenings on December 16 and 17.
Billed as the Dr. Madd Vibe/Late Bloomer Experiment, the Baltimore funk/jazz group Joe Keyes & The Late Bloomer Band have backed Angelo on several US dates and bring their brand of live improvisation and musical sophistication to Moore's music. The band will also showcase another local talent, Kristin Forbes aka Lady Hatchet, singer and guitarist of the rocksteady band, The Scotch Bonnets.
Tickets to the concert are $15 at the door, $10 in advance or with a ticket stub from the film, and can be purchased at www.themetrogallery.net or by calling 443-536-3100.
While continuing his role as the frontman of Fishbone, Angelo's solo efforts as Dr. Madd Vibe forge a link between poetry, performance art and music. A versatile artist, his wildly energetic and visceral solo performances range from pure spoken word and movement to playing drums, Theremin, and various saxophones, with or without accompaniment from other musicians.
Stemming from his experiences growing up as a "fly in the buttermilk" in the predominantly white suburbs of Los Angeles, Moore's work addresses racism, social corrosion, family affairs, personal satisfactions and suffocations and "the human condition in a world gone mad." Since 1997, Moore has released three full-length albums, two comic books with soundtracks, a video, and has an upcoming album, The Angelo Show, slated for release at the beginning of 2012. He has taken his spoken word and sound power to stages throughout the world.
