Tony Furtado
Our first special concert of the season... Tony Furtado! Very few musicians of any stripe so personify a musical genre as completely as Tony Furtado embodies Americana roots music. Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele.
Tony Furtado began his recording career with a 10-year stint at Rounder Records working with the likes of Allison Krauss, Kelly Joe Phelps and Jerry Douglas. During that time, he was drawn to slide guitar by players like Ry Cooder and David Lindley. Over the years,Tony continued to broaden his musical palette and began singing and songwriting as well. He's been called a genius on banjo and slide guitar.
Very few musicians of any stripe so personify a musical genre as completely as Tony Furtado embodies Americana roots music. Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef.
Tony last played in Victoria in 2012, a dazzling show in the old Orange Hall, and we are excited to have him back again. This time Tony will be accompanied by his partner and songwriter Stephanie Schneiderman, who like Tony is celebrated for her many talents across a range of styles. Both have new albums on sale.
