Year of the Iguana
This new play by Claude Solnik follows Tennessee Williams' life and relationship with his sister Rose, the role model for many of his greatest characters including Laura Wingfield from "The Glass Menagerie." The Textile Company's staged reading directed by Daniel Higgins at The Studio Theatre gives Long Islanders a first glimpse of this show the group is preparing for possible productions on Long Island and in New York City.
The play will show you an intriguing story and side of Tennessee Williams as well as reveal how Rose became one of the most influential figures in American theater without writing a word. Followed by a discussion of Tennessee Williams' life and work. A one-night event not to be missed for lovers of theater, Tennessee Williams and anyone who has ever wondered about the story behind some of the world's greatest shows.
Images below show Rose and Tom AKA Tennessee Williams at different points in their life and three Lauras - the real Rose, Piper Laurie on Broadway and Jane Wyman in a movie.
There's also a link to a video about Williams' life - and how his family inspired the world he created for the page and the stage.
