3 Glorias Flamenco en Vivo featuring Jesus Montoya (Bellingham)
Energize your holiday season December 17th at The Blue Horse Gallery at 6pm when world-class powerhouse Flamenco singer Jesus Montoya, Gypsy Flamenco guitar master Pedro Cortes and Seattle's own Puerto Rican-Irish Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes give a presentation of pure Flamenco. This an all-ages event will be Jesus's first public performance in Bellingham.

Jesus Montoya is a Gypsy Flamenco Singer and Composer from Seville, Spain.Jesus was born in Spain into one of the oldest gypsy families in 1966. He is steeped in flamenco purity and power and leaves his audiences feeling enchanted, captivated and deeply loved. At the charismatic early age of seven, Jesus was known throughout his pueblo in Andalucia, Spain as "El Rey del Fandango" where he received non-stop invitations for him to sing wherever he went. By age nine, Jesus discovered "his calling," quit elementary school and began a professional singing career. By age thirteen, touring had become second nature and he realized that his singing could take him around the world. Jesus came to the United States of America in 1990, focused and driven at the age of 23, speaking absolutely no English. It was not long before Jesus began immediately touring with the most accomplished flamenco artists this side of Spain, captivating enthusiastic American audiences and the media's attention. America had embraced Jesus as the best flamenco singer from Spain. Jesus, "El Genio Gitano" "the Gypsy Dynamo" (whose also an incredible knock-out dancer!!) became a high-powered flamenco legend very quickly. Continuing the flamenco tours, this commanding artist began to learn english from watching cartoons in between rehearsals and performances. Creating greater media interest from city to city across the United States and in Canada, Jesus rose to the very top earning him a new media nick name as "The Pavarotti of Flamenco." Jesus has continued living in California, where he writes and records flamenco music and teaches dance and music at his studio. Now married, he is the proud father of two small children who are both passionately following in his footsteps.
He has been featured as a singer alongside legendary flamenco artists such as  Fernanda Romero, Isabel Vargas, Andres Marin, Pepe Rios, La Cipri  Manuela Salazar, Juan Ogalla, Alejandro Granados, Isabel Lopez, Omayra Amaya, Ciro, Juaquin Ruiz, Esrella Moreno, La Truco, Carmela Greco, Pepa Montes, Manolete, Jose Galvan and many more.

Pedro Cortes comes from a family of Spanish Gypsy guitarists and began his studies with his father and the esteemed Flamenco guitarist Sabicas. Having toured professionally since the age of 17, he is gaining international recognition as a soloist and composer. He has premiered his work "En la Oscuridad de las Minas" at the Teatro Albeniz in Madrid, and in 1992 he had works premiered by the Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company at the Joyce Theater in New York. He has two books on Flamenco, El Dron del Faraon and Cruzando el Charco, published by the American Institute of Guitar. Mr. Cortes  was commissioned by Zorongo Flamenco to write a score for a dance drama called "Garden of Names" which was inspired by the Lawrence Thornton novel called "Imagining Argentina". He also wrote music for a childrens program on H B O called Fairy tale for Every Child. He has toured with Jose Greco and Maria Benitez, and has performed with such artists as Farrucita, La Tati, Merche Esmeralda, Manolete and the late Lola Flores. He has been a guest artist with the St. Louis Opera and the New York Grand Opera, and has been commissioned as Musical Director by the Guthrie Theater In Garcia Lorca's BODAS DE SANGRE. Mr. Cortes is artistic director of his own Flamenco Fusion group Amanecer Flamenco De Hoy, and also Musical Director of Mimbre Y Vareta and Zorongo Flamenco. Mr. Cortes is a third generation Flamenco guitarist and uses the experience passed down to him by his family to maintain the purity of Flamenco while creating new compositions.
