Cinema in the Cemetery
Friends of the Cemetery and Trylon Microcinema are proud to present Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages with Rats of the People Motion Picture Orchestra performing a live accompanimentat Minneapolis Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery located at 2925 Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis.
Saturday, October 3: Gates 6:15pm | Showtime: Dusk (approximately 7:15)
This silent documentary viscerally explores the superstitions that resulted in medieval witch hunts. Employing the aid of lifelike recreations and dramatizations, Häxan mixed realism with fantasy and demonstrated film's ability simultaneously instruct and sensationalize. Director Benjamin Christensen w/Christensen, Elisabeth Christensen (1922, DVD, 91m).
The proceeds from the event will help support the Friends of the Cemetery's efforts to restore the steel picket and limestone fence that serves as the border of the cemetery along Lake Street and Cedar Avenue.
Tickets: $10 online or at the gate. Trylon discount cards will be accepted at the gate. Children 12 and under free. At-door ticket sales are cash only - credit cards will not be accepted.
Come early to experience the historic cemetery and smart phone history hunts. Taco Taxi food truck will sell food during the event. No alcoholic beverages or pets are allowed. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. Area immediately in front of the stage will be a chair-free zone.
Getting to the show: On-street parking is available. No general parking within the cemetery; however, some accessible parking will be available. We encourage using public transportation or biking to the event. The Lake Street light rail stop is a short walk from the cemetery, and it is also easily accessible from multiple bus routes. Bike parking will be available within the cemetery.
