The next session in the AIA Columbus Mastering the Business of Architecture series is 'Establishing a Firm'.
Legal implications of starting out - such as learning about each different type of company (LLC, Partnership, Incoporation, etc), State Registration, etc.
Identify the legal ramifications of owning a firm, ranging from how to distinguish personal property to understanding the basic structure of businesses from a legal perspective. Identify the different types of structures available for a busines and understand which would be the best for the firm you're starting (partnership, LLC, Incoporation, etc.) Understand the process of registering your firm with the state it will be practicing in - does the firm need to be registered in each state where you plan to do buesiness, or just the architect? Understanding a business plan - steps to creating a plan that will help your business get off the ground and help you get financing to run the newly established firm.
