Estimating/Scheduling
The second session in the AIA Columbus Mastering the Business of Architecture series is 'Estimating/Scheduling'.
Cost estimating an idea - how to develop a preliminary budget with a client on a schematic design.
Understand the basics of conceptual estimates - available resources, rules of thumb (cost per square foot, new construction vs. renovation, etc). Learn how to apply industry standards to a schematic design to develop an estimate to help an owner establish a budget. - Learn how different project delivery methods will affect the estimating process (establishing a GMP vs. Competitive Bidding)
Learning methods to scale back scope to meet a budget while maintaining the overall quality of a design.
Understanding inflation and cost escalation related to construction schedule.
Mock up a project and estimate it in different ways (show how estimates can fluctuate between a D-B-B project and a CM-R, how phasing affects estimates, etc.)
