The Local Music Scene Presents ThelonesomeKid (9-27)
Every month, a different local musician is interviewed and performs their original music. Having listened closely, the comedians from the local improv group The Local Music Scene then take the words and themes brought up through the songs and interview and use them as the basis and inspiration for their improvised scenes.
September guest: ThelonesomeKid was formed in May 2014 after Patches and Gretchen founder Gretchen Seichrist decided to reinvent the group. The songs of ThelonesomeKid include aggressive word poetry, three a.m. lastdrop ballads, frenetic Stoogesera rock songs, melodic pianodriven pop and soulful nursery rhymes. Gretchen Seichrist, Christopher Thompson and Jules Daud form ThelonesomeKid.
The debut 2014 album from ThelonesomeKid, "iamthelonesomekid," has received numerous rave reviews, including four stars from Chicago music critic Jim DeRogatis. In May 2015, the band recorded another album, "The Last Days Of Sugarin Mississippi." Look for the release this fall. The performances by ThelonesomeKid are mercurial and break down assumptions about the singer, the song and the story.
